PARTNERSHIP

The BDI is an Academic-Industrial-Clinical partnership that brings together leading researchers from universities, companies and the clinical environment to carry out a cohesive, integrated work programme.

The core partners of the BDI are four Irish academic institutions:

and seven companies:

and a key number of clinical collaborators:

  • Dr. James O’Donnell, National Centre for Hereditary Coagulation Disorders, St. James Hospital, Dublin (Blood coagulation)
  • Prof John O’Leary, The Coombe Women’s Hospital, Dublin (Oncology, ovarian cancer)
  • Dr. Richard Costello, Beaumont Hospital, Dublin (Respiratory medicine)
  • Dr. Robert Montgomery, The Blood Centre of Wisconsin, USA (Hematology)

The participation and integration of all of these partners across the full range of activities of the BDI is a key feature of the Institute. The industry partners engage in a real and sustained manner through the placement of one or more full-time staff to work on BDI programmes and projects. This allows them to participate fully in the research and other activities within the Institute.

The development of an Intellectual Property (IP) agreement governing all IP generated within the Institute has facilitated the engagement and participation of all of the BDI partners. The number and diversity of partners, and their broad areas of expertise and commercial interests, are catered for by our “inventor-owns” IP model, which facilitates access to and secures returns on IP created in the Institute for all partners. See Commercial webpage for full details.
