ME AND MY BODY PROGRAMME (MAMBO)

Me & My Body (MAMBO) is an exciting initiative for Primary School Science. Incorporated with the Irish Primary Science Curriculum, this innovative programme combines an understanding of the human body with “hands-on” scientific investigation, teacher resource material and highly graphical web content.

MAMBO enables children to learn about their bodies in a fun yet scientific way. At the centre of the programme is an exciting, interactive website, designed especially for children aged 8 to 12 years. Children learn along with two virtual patients, Ryan & Roisin, about their blood, their heart and immune system, and healthy living.

Features of the MAMBO programme include:

  • Interactive website with activities for students and teachers
  • Classroom based visits by the E & O Team to introduce MAMBO
  • Student and teacher visits to the E & O laboratory at DCU to participate in a MAMBO workshop
  • Online MAMBO teacher community to provide teachers with additional resources for science teaching
  • MAMBO teacher resource CD including lesson content and plans to enhance the programme

In addition to the MAMBO programme a number of interactive science workshops have been developed introducing concepts of biomedical science to young audiences including:

  • Diagnostics through the ages
  • Whats bugging you
  • Bright Sparks

Schools participating in MAMBO can gain credit towards their Discover Primary Science Award from Discover Science & Engineering.
