Nails are actually a modified form of hair and are made of a tough protein called keratin. Your nails grow about one-tenth of a millimetre every day!

If you look at your thumbnails, you will probably see a white half-circle near the skin. This is called the 'lunula'. Changes in the colour or the shape of the lunula can be used as a warning sign of certain diseases!
